I don’t really like comedies. Not usually, anyway. I’ve tried watching shows that everyone likes (The Office, Parks and Rec etc), but I just can’t get into them. I can’t stand certain forms of humour that are common in a lot of comedies. I don’t find these kinds of humour funny, and in fact it sometimes makes me feel really weird and depressed to watch comedies. It’s such a weird reaction, and I’ve never met anyone who can relate at all.

Anyway, I have managed to get into a few comedies. I’ve watched all of Brooklyn Nine Nine up to and including the most recent episodes of season six. I also have watched all three seasons of The Good Place. Other than those two shows, the only other comedy I’ve watched recently doesn’t really count as a comedy at all. It’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. For some reason, dark comedy doesn’t usually give me the same depressed feeling as regular comedy. What is wrong with me? I don’t know.

Here are some of my thoughts on each of these shows.

Brooklyn Nine Nine:

Some parts of this show are great, and I generally find the humour to be a lot more palatable than most other comedies. I love a lot of the characters, especially Amy and Captain Holt. But I’m kind of getting tired of the show. So far, I haven’t liked Season 6 very much. I don’t know how long I’m going to keep watching.

The Good Place:

I love these characters so much (All of them, but especially Eleanor and Chidi). Season 1 of this show was absolutely brilliant. It instantly became one of my top 5 favourite shows. I found a lot of the humour legitimately funny, but the characters and everything else are also great! Season 2 was a little bit disappointing to me. I definitely liked it, but not as much as Season 1. And then… there was Season 3. I don’t like it. There are a few episodes that are pretty good, but overall the quality is just so much lower than the first two seasons. And the premise is getting old now. It feels like they’re doing the same thing over and over, and I’m tired of it.

A Series of Unfortunate Events:

I love this show. I admit it has problems (particularly the Carnivorous Carnival, yikes), but I love it so much. I like the book series, but honestly, the TV show is better. I’m so sorry. Seasons 1 and 2 were great, but Season 3 was on a whole different level. I know the ending was controversial, but I loved it so much. I love Violet, Klaus and Sunny. The villains are so good too. Esme and Olaf are terrible irredeemable people, but they’re so fun to watch! I honestly find the darkness of this show to be refreshing. It’s dark with just the right amount of happiness. And there are some scenes that are so hilarious. My favourite episodes: The Reptile Room Part 1, The Miserable Mill Part 2, The Hostile Hospital Parts 1 and 2, The Penultimate Peril Parts 1 and 2, The End
