I thought I’d write about some of my thoughts on Doctor Who series 11. I know it has flaws, but honestly it’s been the most enjoyable season for me since Davies’ era. It’s not that I hated Moffat’s era or anything, I just never got as into it as I was with Davies’ era. I really enjoyed the majority of the episodes in series 11, and there weren’t any episodes that I hated. Plus, I love Thirteen and all the companions. Spoilers below the cut.

The Woman Who Fell to Earth: I was so worried that I would hate this series, but this episode really put my fears to rest. I immediately fell in love with Jodie Whittaker and I loved the new style of this episode. My favourite part of the episode was the Doctor building their new sonic. Incredible scene! Grace’s death was really sad, and I wasn’t happy about how it was done. Also, while I love Graham, Ryan and Yaz, three companions feels like a bit many to introduce all at once. But other than that, I really liked this episode, and it’s miles better than a lot of the other season openers in Doctor Who. 8/10

The Ghost Monument: Overall a solid episode. Some parts in the middle were a little boring, but I liked the rest of it. The best scene by far was Thirteen reuniting with their TARDIS! What a beautiful scene. While I liked this episode, it wasn’t super memorable.7/10

Rosa: This episode is rightly considered to be one of the best of the series! I haven’t been much of a fan of many of Doctor Who’s historical episodes in the past, but they were all well done in series 11. This episode has the right balance of educational and story content. There were a lot of excellent scenes. I liked the way that the Doctor and their companions were quite secondary in the episode to Rosa Parks who was the focus. My one complaint about this episode is that I think it should have been situated later in the series after we’d gotten to know Thirteen and the companions a little more. 9/10

Arachnids in the UK: While I didn’t dislike this episode, it was one of the worst in the series. The overall plot was kind of a mess and there wasn’t much of a conclusive ending. Still, what a fun episode! I absolutely love the scene at the beginning where Yaz invites Thirteen to tea. And the scene at the end where Yaz, Ryan and Graham all decide to travel with Thirteen. This was the episode that made me ship Thirteen/Yaz. 6/10

The Tsuranga Conundrum: So, really unpopular opinion here, but… I loved this episode? Honestly, I was so confused by the negative reviews. Sure, it’s a bit ridiculous, but it was so much fun! One of my favourites of the season! The Pting is absolutely iconic. My favourite scene was the one where Thirteen was talking so passionately about that sciencey thing. I love them! 9/10

Demons of the Punjab: I really liked this episode! It was especially nice to see an episode focusing on Yaz. I know barely anything about the partition of India, so this episode was really interesting for that reason as well. My thoughts on this episode are pretty similar to my thoughts on Rosa. This is how Doctor Who historical episodes should be done! 8/10

Kerblam!: This was my least favourite episode in the series. I thought the message at the end was really confusing and seemed to support the idea that people spending their lives working in factories is a good thing? And that somehow the problem with the factory was that it automated everything rather than forcing humans to work half the day doing things that could easily be done by robots? Still, I didn’t hate this episode. It was fun. 6/10

The Witchfinders: While I liked this episode, I think that I liked it less than a lot of other people did. I thought King James was excellent, but other than that, the episode fell a little bit flat for me. There’s nothing I particularly disliked about it, though. Also, is it just me or was Jodie Whittaker especially attractive in this episode? 7/10

It Takes You Away: My favourite episode of the series! This was a controversial one for sure, and I can totally understand why some people don’t like it. But honestly? This is Doctor Who at its most iconic. It was just the right level of weird for me to absolutely enjoy. This episode had scary parts, sad parts, happy parts and funny parts! It reminded me of one of my favourite book series from when I was a kid: Keys to the Kingdom by Garth Nix (sadly, very few people have read it). There were so many good parts of the episode. I’d have to say that my favourite scenes are the one with Ryan and Graham at the end and the one where Thirteen excitedly tells Yaz about the story she heard as a child. 9/10

The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos: I liked this episode. I share most people’s opinion that it didn’t feel much like a finale episode. Honestly, that doesn’t bother me too much. We’re getting a New Years special, after all. I don’t have much negative or positive to say about the episode. It was overall just pretty fine. 7/10

I’m very excited about the New Years special! I know that a lot of people are really disappointed that it’s the only episode we’re getting in 2019, but honestly, I don’t really mind. I’m just glad Thirteen, Yaz, Ryan and Graham are all coming back.
